The LivingEcosystem Unity asset is a terrain-aware simulation framework designed to create emergent wildlife behavior. Unlike static ambient life scripts, this system uses a role-based architecture (Herbivore, Predator, Pollinator) that interacts with a GrowthAgent-driven flora system. It utilizes proximity queries for performance, making it suitable for open-world environments where full-scale ecological simulation would typically be too expensive for the CPU main thread.
Integration Tips
- NavMesh Requirement: While optional, integrating Unity’s NavMesh is highly recommended for the AnimalAgent. Ensure your terrain is baked and that the agent’s ‘sense radius’ is tuned to prevent excessive pathfinding calculations in dense areas.
- HUD Performance: The monitoring HUD uses secondary cameras which can significantly impact GPU overhead. Only enable the HUD during debugging or for specific ‘god-mode’ gameplay features.
- Seeding Filters: Utilize the ‘Skip Underwater’ and height filters during the editor seeding phase to ensure flora doesn’t spawn in unreachable or visually glitched terrain regions.
