Technical Overview
The Chainlink Fences Unity package provides a modular set of high-fidelity perimeter assets designed for realistic environment dressing. While the base triangle counts of 700 to 1100 per segment are relatively high for simple fencing, the inclusion of three-stage LODs ensures that the draw call overhead remains manageable in larger scenes. These assets utilize a traditional Alpha Testing workflow, making them ideal for high-poly hero sections where silhouette detail on barbed wire is critical.
Integration Tips
- Shader Upgrading: Since these assets use the legacy Unity 5 Standard Specular shader, you must use the ‘Upgrade Project Materials to URP/HDRP’ tool if you are working in a modern Scriptable Render Pipeline. Ensure your Alpha Clipping threshold is tuned to prevent flickering in the chainlink mesh.
- Batching Optimization: To keep batch counts low, utilize Unity’s Static Batching for static perimeter walls. If your scene is dynamic, ensure the meshes are marked for the SRP Batcher by ensuring material properties are compatible.
- Physics and Navigation: Do not use Mesh Colliders for these fences. Use a Box Collider for the main fence body and a thin Capsule Collider for the posts to optimize the physics engine and NavMesh baking.

- Post-Apocalyptic First-Person Shooters: The high poly count and detailed barbed wire provide the necessary visual fidelity for close-up player interaction, where standard transparent textures often break immersion due to lack of depth.
- Industrial Simulation & Training: The accurate 1024×1024 texture resolution and PBR-ready normal maps allow for realistic lighting in controlled environments, making them suitable for safety training applications where spatial awareness of boundaries is key.
